Eligibility Requirements

While Maranatha Homes is not subsidized under the Halton Access to Community Housing program (HATCH), we do model after their eligibility requirements. This is being done to provide affordable housing for those who need it most.

  • Household income (pensions, annuities and other sources) for a one bedroom apartment should not exceed the income limit for Halton Region as determined by the Housing Services Act which is $40,500

  • Household assets (including real estate, investments, RSP's) should not exceed the limit for Halton Region which is $50,000 for one person and $75,000 for two or more people

In addition:

  • Any member of the household must be 65 years of age or older at time of application

  • All household members are able to live independently (with or without help of a support services agency)

  • All household members have legal status in Canada

  • We do not accept applications for anyone under the age of 65, or applications that are incomplete.

Understanding Our Waitlist

We know finding affordable housing can be stressful. This article explains—step by step—how our waitlist works, what happens when an apartment becomes available, and what you need to do to keep your application active.

How the waitlist works
  1. Apply and provide required documents. When we receive a complete application, we review it for eligibility and required documentation.

  2. Your name is added to the waitlist. Approved applicants are placed on the waitlist based on our rules (for example, by application date and/or priority categories, where applicable).

  3. We contact people in order when a unit is available. When an apartment becomes vacant, we contact the next eligible applicant whose needs match the unit (for example, the right size and accessibility features).

  4. We may confirm details before offering a unit. Before making an offer, we may verify your contact information and confirm eligibility details are still current.

When you are offered an apartment

When your name reaches the top of the list for an available unit, we will contact you (for example, by phone, email, and/or letter) with an apartment offer and next steps. Offers are time-sensitive because vacant units must be filled promptly.

Important: If you are offered an apartment, you must accept the offer to keep your position. If you decline or do not respond by the deadline provided, your application will be placed at the bottom of the waitlist.

  • Declining includes telling us you are not interested, asking to stay on the list without accepting this offer, or not completing the required steps to take the unit.

  • No response by the stated deadline is treated the same as declining, because we must move to the next applicant.

How to keep your application active

  • Tell us right away if your phone number, email, or mailing address changes. We can only make an offer if we can reach you.

  • Report important changes (for example, household size or accessibility needs), because this can affect which units match your application.

  • Respond to waitlist check-ins. If we send a letter or call to confirm you still want housing, reply by the deadline so your application stays active.

Frequently asked questions
How long is the waitlist?

Wait times vary depending on how often units become available and the type of unit you need. We cannot guarantee a timeline.

Can I wait for a different apartment?

If you are offered an apartment and choose not to accept it, your application will be moved to the bottom of the waitlist. This policy helps us house applicants fairly and fill vacant units quickly.

What if I’m away or hard to reach?

Please provide an alternate contact (with your permission) and keep your voicemail and mailbox available. If we cannot reach you by the deadline, your application will be moved to the bottom of the waitlist.

If you have questions about your application or need to update your contact information, please contact the housing office using the phone number or email listed on your application receipt/confirmation.
